Story Telling from the Past Through the Future
Australia is a land built on stories. Stories of our past. Stories of our present. Stories of our future. These stories come from the oldest living culture on Earth, carried across more than sixty thousand years and shared through traditions that still guide us today. They come from our region too, from New Zealand, from the Pacific Islands, from communities whose voices deserve to stand on the world stage.
That’s the Worldcon we want to create, one that honours ancient stories, celebrates today’s creators, and inspires the stories we’ll all tell tomorrow.
Embracing our Rich Story Telling History
Australia is a continent built on stories, stories older than cities, older than empires, older than written language itself. Our First Nations peoples have lived on this land for more than sixty thousand years, carrying the world’s oldest continuous culture and sharing knowledge through powerful oral traditions that echo across generations. These stories map the stars, shape identity, and hold the memory of Australia itself. And that’s where our Worldcon begins.
Because storytelling isn’t just our past, it’s our future. It is the thread that ties ancient knowledge to tomorrow’s possibilities, weaving Dreaming stories with starships, ancestral journeys with imagined worlds, and human history with futures we’ve yet to write.
Our theme celebrates storytelling across time: from the deep past, through the present, and into the vast unknown ahead.
We want to honour these ancient traditions, spotlight the voices that have shaped this land, and create a platform that inspires new tales, stories born here at Worldcon, carrying us all into worlds yet unimagined.

Highlighting Local Voices
Our Worldcon isn’t just Australian, it’s proudly Asia‑Pacific. While Australia may be hosting, we want to lift voices from New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and across the region. Many of our neighbours don’t have the population size or infrastructure to host an event like Worldcon, so Brisbane 2028 will also be their Worldcon.
We want creators, fans, and storytellers from across the Pacific to feel at home here. To know that they have a place on our panels, in our workshops, and on our stages. Our aim is to celebrate the full spectrum of imagination from our corner of the world, from Māori and Pasifika futurism to Australian First Nations storytelling, to the bold new work coming out of our fan communities.
By making space for every voice, we’re building a Worldcon that’s bigger than one country, one that represents an entire region of storytellers.
A Total Eclipse
The 22 July 2028 total solar eclipse, falling just before our proposed Worldcon, offers a rare and powerful opportunity for our Worldcon. As one of the most extraordinary natural events, it embodies the spirit of science fiction and fantasy: curiosity, discovery, and wonder. It’s the first since 1857 and the last until 2858.
Hosting Worldcon in our region at this time allows us to open the door to unique programming opportunities, from astronomy and science‑education panels to youth engagement and cultural discussions, giving our convention a defining moment that attendees will remember long after the event.
