Acknowledgment of Country
Meanjin [Pronounced “MEE-an-jin”]
The Committee of the WorldCon Brisbane 2028 bid acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians. We recognise their cultures, histories, and diversity and their deep connection to the lands, waters, and seas of Queensland and the Torres Strait.
We acknowledge the Yuggera people and the Turrbal people as the Traditional Custodians of Meanjin (Brisbane). We pay our respects to Yuggera and Turrbal Elders past, present, and emerging.
Always was, Always will be Aboriginal land.
Codes of Conduct
May 30, 2024
If the Australia 2028 bid is successful, the convention will run under a variation of the code of conduct, with the addition of the sections listed under the Convention Code of Conduct. The bid team believes it is important to have this code of conduct visible from the start of our bid process. We aim for this to be community-driven: if you have suggestions for inclusions to our code of conduct, please do not hesitate to Contact Us.
Inclusivity and Accessibility
Statement for Inclusivity and Accessibility
May 31, 2024
The Brisbane 2028 bid team is going into this process with inclusivity and accessibility as our two highest priorities. We will be reaching out to both First Nations and accessibility groups in the hope of having representatives of both (and as many other marginalised groups as we can) in our convention committee to ensure we make the best Worldcon we can.
