Random Jones, Co-Chair of the bid for a Worldcon in Brisbane in 2028, has released the following statement:
I would like to announce that I am stepping down as Co-Chair of the Brisbane in 28 Worldcon bid.
Due to ongoing health issues, I can see that I am not going to be able to dedicate the time and energy to organising and promotion that the bid deserves. As a result, I am choosing to step aside to ensure a bid leadership that can be fully on task.
I will continue to serve as Chair of the bid’s nonprofit umbrella organisation MacGuffins Australia Ltd., and will contribute my efforts as a general committee member, handling a lot more background tasks.
I am very pleased that my colleague and Co-Chair Vix Richardson is remaining in the position. I am delighted that Jo Van is stepping up as Co-Chair in my place.
I am very proud of what the bid committee has achieved so far, and I am confident in handing over to Vix and Jo Van. I have full confidence that the Brisbane in 28 bid team has the knowledge, experience, energy, and enthusiasm required to make a successful bid for Worldcon in Brisbane in 2028.
I hope you will give your enthusiastic support to Vix and Jo Van and the Brisbane in 28 bidcom in their efforts during the next six months to Site Selection at LA Con V.
Vix Richardson and Jo Van, Co-Chairs of Brisbane in 28, added this statement:
We would like to thank Random for all of his hard work during the last two years getting our bid launched.
